Thanks to the Internet, you no longer need a record label to sell records, a studio to make a movie or a publicist to become famous. All of the tools you need to promote yourself are online.
But signing up for a Twitter account - unfortunately - doesn't guarantee you a million followers. Rather, the secret to making the most of social media platforms -- like YouTube, Twitter and KickStarter -- is a good marketing strategy.
"Obviously some people can afford to pay publicists thousands of dollars to strategize for them," said communications strategist, Jennifer Hoelzer. "But artists at the forefront of their careers don’t usually have that luxury. Which is why, I want to give more talented artists the skills they need to put together their own marketing strategies and build their own fan base. And for less than what most publicists charge by the hour, I will show them how."
The seminar will cover:
- How to formulate a marketing strategy;
- How to apply your marketing strategy to platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube**;
- Writing/distributing a press release or blog;
- Managing your digital reputation (websites, IMBd, Wikipedia);
- PLUS: How to avoid embarrassing making an embarrassing public screw up.
**Note: This class will teach you how to use a marketing strategy to make the most of social and digital media platforms. A familiarity with these platforms will be helpful to get the most out of this class.
